This short article can make your job search much easier and less expensive.    

You might be fired or laid off without warning.  You could be escorted to your desk to grab a few personal belongings, then out of the building.  Boom!  You are locked out.  No access to your contact list or to samples of your work or to documents you might want to keep.  

You can try to reconstruct your contact list, but it's a whole lot of work--and valuable time wasted.  Chances are, you'll only remember a small fraction of your valuable contacts.  

What about  your work samples?  Also gone!   Now, you can't create a portfolio or a web site to display them.   

Take action today.  Make sure you have that contact list and your references at home with you.  Make copies of key documents, including your work samples--or store them on a flash drive or email them to your home.  

This is your carer equity.  Protect it.
